How to Install and Use the SocialClipper Chrome Extension

A step-by-step guide to installing the companion extension from the Chrome Web Store and using it to clip visual bookmarks from your feeds.

The SocialClipper Chrome Extension is a companion tool designed to make visual bookmarking seamless. Instead of manually copying links, the extension runs directly in your browser, extracting content from supported pages with a single click.

Whether you want to clip X/Twitter threads, save LinkedIn insights, bookmark Reddit discussions, download Instagram reels/photos, save YouTube watch links, or archive TikTok clips, here is how to get set up and start curating.

Step 1: Install from the Chrome Web Store

Getting started takes less than a minute. Follow these steps to install the companion extension:

  1. Open Google Chrome (or any Chromium-based browser like Brave, Edge, or Opera) and navigate to the live extension page: SocialClipper Chrome Extension
  2. Click the blue "Add to Chrome" button on the right side of the screen.
  3. When the browser prompt appears asking for permissions, review them and click "Add extension" to confirm installation.

Step 2: Pin the Extension for Quick Access

For the best bookmarking experience, keep the extension visible in your browser toolbar:

  1. Click the puzzle icon (🧩) in the upper-right corner of your Chrome browser window (next to your profile picture).
  2. Scroll down to find SocialClipper in the list of installed extensions.
  3. Click the pin icon (📌) next to the name to keep it anchored directly in your browser bar.

Step 3: Clip Your First Post

Once installed, you can save content from any of our supported platforms:

1

Open a Standalone Post Page

Navigate to the specific, dedicated page of the post you want to save. For example, click on a tweet's timestamp to open its status page, or click "Copy link to post" on a LinkedIn card and open it in a new tab.

2

Click the SocialClipper Icon

Click the SocialClipper button in your browser toolbar. The extension parses the content script and opens the preview window showing your card.

3

Tag and Save

Review the preview card. Select or type custom tags (like #design or #recipes) in the labels field, then click the "Save" button. The card is instantly synced to your private dashboard.

Do I need an account or an API key?

No to both. The extension signs itself in as a guest the first time you open it, so you can install it and start clipping straight away — there is no key to copy and nothing to configure.

Creating an account is worth doing once you have saved a few things: it syncs your library across devices and makes sure you don't lose it if you clear your browser data. When you sign up from inside the extension, everything you saved as a guest is carried over automatically — you will not lose a single clip.

What you get

The free plan covers 50 saved posts, with every feature included and no time limit or card required. Premium ($4.99/mo) is the same product with that limit removed — it is the only difference between the two plans.

Troubleshooting & Smart Helper

Additionally, if you click the extension on an unsupported feed page, user timeline, or homepage, the Smart Helper Bar will pop up to show you the exact steps and URL patterns required for that platform.
